DR. ELENA-MARIA BURUIANA

Dr. Elena-Maria Buruiana is a double board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and internist with over two decades of experience, widely recognized for her expertise in menopause management and her commitment to truly personalized women’s healthcare.

Born and raised in Romania, she earned her medical degree in 1992 from“Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara. Soon after, she moved to New York City with a clear vision: to deliver compassionate, individualized care while redefining the standard of excellence in women’s health.

In 1997, Dr. Buruiana completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Wyckoff Heights/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and became board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Driven by her passion for women’s health, she went on to complete a second residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nassau University Medical Center, affiliated with Stony Brook Medical Center, in 2001. She achieved board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2003. In 2001, she established her own private OB/GYN practice, where she continues to focus on women’s health and menopause care, offering a highly personalized approach that reflects her deep respect for each patient’s unique journey. She currently serves as a voluntary attending physician at Northwell Health Lenoxhill Hospital.

Throughout her career, Dr. Buruiana has delivered more than 1,000 babies, spent countless hours in the operating room, and devoted her professional life to caring for patients with both precision and compassion. Her philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that optimal health begins with listening—understanding not just symptoms, but the story behind them. By combining the latest evidence-based medicine with empathy and individualized treatment, she empowers women to thrive at every stage of life. Patients often describe her as warm, attentive, and meticulous, with many saying that talking to her feels like confiding in a trusted friend.

Beyond her medical practice, Dr. Buruiana is dedicated to philanthropy. She is a founding member of the MARA Society, an organization committed to supporting vulnerable communities and advancing the well-being of children in Romania. She sits as a board member in Alex Fund and is an active supporter of Hospice of Hope.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Buruiana cherishes time with her husband, son, and their dog. She enjoys being a dedicated hockey mom and finds joy in the simple pleasures of Hudson Valley life—gardening, cooking, farming, and the grounding rhythm of family and community.

Her entire practice mirrors her personality and vision - centered on working closely with women, listening intently, and walking alongside them in their health journeys. From the scheduling team and reception to the nursing staff, every member reflects this same vision. She has been working closely with the same trusted team for more than a decade, fostering a collaborative environment that ensures patients feel supported, understood, and cared for at every step.
